A fire that quickly gutted an abandoned home in Brownsville, Texas is the fourth in a week on the Rio Grande Valley city’s west side, raising fears an arsonist may be at work.
Deputy Fire Chief David Hinojasa told The Brownsville Herald an investigator is looking at each of the blazes to try to find out how they started.
Another abandoned home and an old grocery store were burned earlier last week. In the third fire, a palm tree was set ablaze Thursday and the flames damaged an adjacent old laundry buiding.
The latest fire was Sunday in a neighborhood. Residents say the home destroyed had been vacant for at least four years.
Hinojosa says police recently were at the old house because of activity there involving youths.
