Prosecutors say a fourth man has pleaded guilty in a Texas-based insurance scam linked to a deadly New York tour boat accident.
Investigators in Houston say Robert Steve Mills of Bonita Springs, Fla., pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder money. Mills faces up to 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced Oct. 19.
A 40-foot tour boat called the Ethan Allen capsized in October 2005 on Lake George, in New York’s Adirondack Mountains. Twenty elderly tourists died.
Prosecutors say Mills conspired to launder proceeds of the sale of fake liability insurance policies. The case included Global Property Owners Association Inc. Investigators say boat operator Shoreline Cruises Inc. discovered its policy was fraudulent after the accident.
Three other men who earlier pleaded guilty face sentencing next month in Houston.
