A federal judge has sentenced Sean Hunter, the former director of aviation at Louis Armstrong International Airport, to one year and a day in prison in a Hurricane Katrina insurance fraud case.
The Times-Picayune reports U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval Jr. sentenced Hunter on Wednesday and ordered him to report to prison on June 27.
Hunter pleaded guilty in January to a single count of obstruction of justice for his role in the scheme.
Hunter and his wife, Shauna Crowden Hunter, were charged with trying to profit from a bogus insurance claim after the 2005 storm.
Prosecutors said Shauna Hunter falsely claimed her new BMW had been destroyed in the storm.
Shauna Hunter still faces charges in the case.
