A former Vinita, Okla., insurance agent will pay more than $4,400 in restitution after pleading guilty to selling insurance without a license, Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson reported.
William Ronald Harlan, former owner of Harlan Insurance Services, pleaded guilty Aug. 18 in Craig County District Court to one count of performing the acts of an insurance producer. He was sentenced to a three-year deferred sentence and ordered to pay $4,432.02 in restitution.
Investigators found Harlan, 63, continued accepting premium payments from customers after having surrendered his insurance agent license. Harlan was charged June 9.
Investigators from the Oklahoma Insurance Department investigated the case. Edmondson’s insurance fraud unit has statewide jurisdiction to prosecute insurance fraud. The attorney general’s insurance fraud unit may be contacted at (405) 522-3403.
