Fort Worth-based announced the addition of seasoned employee benefits broker Brian Sutherland to its Denton, Texas, office.
Higginbotham acquired the Denton agency when it merged with the then 24-year-old Denton Insurance Center in 1998. Until the merger, the Denton agency’s book of business consisted of personal and commercial property and casualty insurance accounts. With the acquisition, the agency’s resources expanded to include Higginbotham’s full-service Financial Services Division, including employee benefits, life insurance, executive benefits and retirement plans. Sutherland is the Denton office’s first resident employee benefits specialist.
Sutherland’s relationship with Higginbotham dates back 10 years, during which time he worked in the health insurance carrier community and helped place medical, dental and life coverage for the agency’s group benefit clients. He has held sales and consultant positions at NYLCare Texas Health Plan, Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas. During his 20-year career, he has maintained a minimum client retention rate of 92 percent.
