Sabra Purtill has been named permanent chief financial officer of American International Group (ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½), the company said.
Purtill was called on in late January to fill the role of interim CFO after the firing of former interim CFO Mark Lyons, who ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ said violated his employment terms with the insurer.
Lyons, who was also executive vice president, global chief actuary, and head of portfolio management, was appointed interim CFO for just a couple of weeks for Shane Fitzsimons, who took what was then a temporary medical leave of absence.

Fitzsimons is now stepping down after his leave, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ said.
“Shane played a critical role in the successful execution of major strategic initiatives, including ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ 200, our company-wide transformation program, the operational separation of the life and retirement business from ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½, and the Corebridge IPO, to name a few,” said ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ CEO Peter Zaffino. “I am personally very grateful for his partnership and the lasting contributions he made across the organization. On behalf of the ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ Board of Directors and all our colleagues, I wish Shane the very best as he focuses on his health and his family.”
Zaffino said Purtill “will provide important continuity in the chief financial officer position.”
Purtill previously served as CFO of Corebridge Financial. Prior to that, she was ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s executive vice president and chief risk officer, and deputy chief financial officer. Prior to ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½, Purtill held senior leadership roles in finance and investor relations at The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., Assured Guaranty, and ACE Limited (now Chubb).
