Blackboard Insurance, an American International Group company, announced that John Mizzi will join the team as head of Growth and Underwriting. Mizzi will lead the underwriting team as Blackboard expands its use of data, analytics and technology to serve the needs of insureds and broker partners in the middle market of commercial insurance.
Mizzi joins Blackboard from CNA, where he has led commercial field operations since 2016. He previously had a 25-year career at Chubb, where he most recently served as senior vice president and Eastern territory field underwriting officer.
Mizzi succeeds Ed Pulkstenis, who will take on a newly created role at Blackboard, head of Machine Augmented Solutions. Pulkstenis will be working on designing the “optimal interaction between the human and machine,” according to the announcement.

Blackboard Insurance says it is “reimagining the ecosystem of commercial insurance for the middle market” using technology and innovation. The company writes property, auto, general liability and umbrella liability for companies in the manufacturing, real estate, wholesale, retail and services industries with annual sales up to $500 million.
