American International Group reported that David McElroy, president and CEO of Lexington, has been promoted to president and CEO of the North America operations of General Insurance. This new appointment is effective immediately.

ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s General Insurance division includes both commercial and personal insurance sold through the insurer’s multichannel distribution network. In this new role, McElroy will continue to oversee excess and surplus lines insurer Lexington, along with ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ Risk Management, Financial Lines, Validus Specialty, Western World, Glatfelter and Programs. McElroy will also oversee the U.S., Bermuda and Canada underwriting and field operations of General Insurance.

McElroy first joined ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ in October 2018. Prior to joining ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½, McElroy held numerous leadership roles within the insurance industry, including executive chairman of Arch Insurance Group and vice chairman of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group.

McElroy will continue to report to Peter Zaffino, CEO General Insurance and global chief operating officer, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½, and continue to serve as a member of the General Insurance executive leadership team.

Alexander Baugh, who has been serving as president and CEO of North America General Insurance, has been appointed global chief underwriting officer for Casualty and Financial Lines, General Insurance.

In connection with McElroy’s new role, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ also announced that Lou Levinson has been named president and CEO of Lexington. Levinson has served as Lexington’s head of Casualty since joining ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ in September 2018. Prior to joining ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½, he was with Venbrook Insurance Services and, before that, IFG Companies. He has also had positions with Argo, ACE, Fireman’s Fund and Chubb.

Levinson will continue to report to McElroy, with responsibility for the ongoing repositioning of Lexington and its strategy in the excess and surplus lines market.
