As nearly half of all construction fatalities involve a vehicle, XL Group North America Construction has added fleet safety training services to its construction insurance business in collaboration with Issaquah, Washington-based SWERVE Fleet Training.
Contractors face significant vehicle risks both on and off the job site, as they work with vehicles of all sizes: dump trucks, tractor trailers, concrete mixers, tankers and others.
XL Group’s Construction Risk Engineers work with SWERVE and its contractor clients to analyze current driver performance. Using this information, SWERVE provides XL Group’s clients with a tailored 360-degree training and instruction program to correct driver habits that are resulting in accidents and other losses.
In a statement, SWERVE Fleet Training said its goal is to help increase the safety record and reduce the collision rates for XL Group’s clients.
In addition to saving lives, proper training of drivers can lead to fewer injuries and lower workers’ compensation costs, as well as lower repair expenses and less vehicle downtime, SWERVE said.
