The judge overseeing New York’s lawsuit against former American International Group Inc. Chief Executive Hank Greenberg denied Monday a motion urging him to quit the case.

Greenberg sought to have New York State Supreme Court Justice Charles Ramos removed because he appeared to be biased, citing statements he had made about facts underlying the case.

Ramos denied the motion, saying an appeals court put the case on hold. The judge said Greenberg could refile his motion once the stay was lifted.

Former New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer sued Greenberg in 2005, alleging Greenberg structured transactions to hide ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s losses. Eric Schneiderman, the current attorney general, has taken over the case for the state.

The case is New York v. Greenberg et al, New York State Supreme Court, New York County, No. 401720/2005.
