W.R. Berkley Corp. last year awarded its chairman and chief executive, William Berkley, a $2 million bonus according to a proxy statement filed by the company on Wednesday.
The Greenwich, Conn., company also increased Berkley’s salary to $1 million from $920,000, according to the filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The proxy, an annual report to shareholders, Berkley’s 2000 compensation, which totaled $3.8 million, was based mainly on the financial performance of the company.
