A state of emergency has been declared for counties in Northwest Wisconsin impacted by widespread flooding.
Gov. Scott Walker declared the emergency state for Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, and Iron counties, where severe thunderstorms produced torrential rain, damaging wind, and large hail causing evacuation of persons, downed trees and power lines, mudslides, and flash flooding that damaged roads and bridges.
Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel expressed concern for the residents affected by the recent severe storms and flooding in Northwestern Wisconsin.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the residents dealing with the aftermath of these severe storms,” stated Commissioner Nickel. “Anyone facing property damage should check their insurance coverage. Unfortunately, in some cases, their insurance may not cover damage caused by a flood.”
Nickle reminded those affected to record property damage as soon as possible and to notify their insurance agents or insurance companies to begin the claims process.
