The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) issued a Cease and Desist Order against of Warren, Michigan, for unlicensed insurance activity.
The department said Cook violated the Insurance Code by selling, soliciting or negotiating insurance without being properly licensed by the state.
DIFS staff responded to a tip about Darryl Dionyus Cook and possible unlicensed activity. A DIFS investigation found that Cook was advertising and selling fraudulent no-fault vehicle insurance policies via the popular social media channel Facebook.
According to the commissioner’s order, Cook was offering seven-day no-fault policies for $60 and six-month policies for $125.
“DIFS advises consumers to only conduct business with entities that are properly licensed,” said DIFS Director Patrick McPharlin. “Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
