A former Ohio insurance agent was sentenced in early May after pleading guilty to insurance fraud and theft, Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor announced.
Former McConnelsville insurance agent James Brent Whitehouse was sentenced in the Morgan County Court of Common Pleas to 90 days in jail with work-release conditions, five years of community control, 200 hours of community service and ordered to pay $838.09 in restitution to former clients.
Whitehouse pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and theft earlier this year.
In separate incidents, the state insurance department found Whitehouse submitted documentation for false losses related to an approximately $48,000 barn fire claim. Whitehouse also misappropriated $14,000 in client premium funds. The funds were returned and his clients did not go without insurance coverage.
Whitehouse’s insurance agent license was revoked by the department in February 2014.
