St. Louis County, Mo., has allocated $500,000 to help Ferguson raze and rebuild property that was damaged in the aftermath of the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown.
Residents and county officials want several blighted sites in Ferguson and surrounding communities to undergo image rehabilitation so people are not constantly reminded of the recent turmoil. The initiative was presented to the St. Louis County Council by Rodney Crim, the president of the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the process of seeking bids for the demolition of 18 key structures, which housed about 30 businesses, will begin immediately.
Ferguson Mayor James Knowles told the paper that he wants the program, which will be funded by the Port Authority, to focus on helping small businesses.
