Former West Mansfield insurance agent Robert Horney, of Marysville, Ohio, was sentenced in Logan County Common Pleas Court to serve 60 days in jail, five years on community control and ordered to pay more than $21,000 in restitution for multiple fraud-related offenses, the Ohio Department of Insurance announced.
Horney could also face up to six and a half years of incarceration if he doesn’t abide to the community control conditions. Horney pleaded guilty in April to counts of grand theft, theft from the elderly, theft and insurance fraud based on a joint investigation by the Department and the Logan County’s Sheriff’s Office.
Horney sold property insurance policies to local residents but kept their premium payments that should have been forwarded to insurance companies, leaving them without insurance protection, the department said.
Horney surrendered his license to the department in July 2013.
