The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says 63 Nebraskans died while working in 2007, and the 16 traffic deaths and eight homicides were the most common causes of death.
Spokesman Paul LaPorte says the bureau doesn’t typically release any information on the incidents behind the statistics, which are preliminary.
But last December’s shooting at the Westroads Mall in Omaha played a role in making homicide the second most-common cause of death.
The bureau says eight people were killed while working in Nebraska in 2007. That figure likely includes six Von Maur department store workers killed in the shooting, but the two customers killed that day and the gunman who killed himself would not be part of the statistics.
