Former Fargo Mayor Bruce Furness reports that he is settling in as the interim chief executive officer of North Dakota’s Workforce Safety and Insurance Agency.
Furness says one of his big challenges has been to boost employee morale. He says WSI approves injured worker claims in a timely and professional manner, and he says it’s time to get that message out so public confidence in the agency can be restored.
Furness another goal is to improve communication and trust within the agency. He says he’s doing that by holding weekly meetings.
Furness is managing a staff of 240 workers.
He says he might stay on through the 2009 legislative session
