The Nebraska Department of Insurance has opened an investigation this month regarding the issuance of bogus certificates of liablity insurance.
The Insurance Fraud Prevention Division has received information that several transportation companies have received certificates of insurance for workers’ compensation coverage that may not be valid. The insurance coverage has allegedly been issued to an organization of which the transporation companies are members. The investigation encompasses a multi-state area.
While the investigation is in process, the Department suggests that if companies are questioning the validity of their workers’ compensation coverage, they contact the insurance company listed on the certificate directly to confirm whether the coverage is in effect.
