Republican representative Bob Tomlinson from Roeland Park announced that he’s resigning his seat in the Kansas Legislature to accept the post of Assistant Commissioner of Insurance when the newly elected Commissioner, Sandy Praeger, takes over in January.
Praeger, a Republican, was elected to head the State’s Insurance Department, when Kathleen Sebelius resigned the post to make her successful run for governor.
She previously served as VP and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Insurance, where she worked closely with Tomlinson. He’s been the Chairman of the House Insurance Committee for the past 4 years.
According to a report from the Kansas City Star, Tomlinson plans to look into the Insurance Department’s auditing system “to make sure it’s functioning properly.” He also added, “I suspect I’ll be involved somewhat in the legislative process. That would make sense.”
