Perhaps one of the most expensive hailstorms in North Dakota history struck the south central part of the state on June 9, 2001.
The North Dakota Department of Insurance reported an estimated $220 million in property damages from the storms. In addition, the department expects the number of claims to top 60,000.
Laura Kotelman, counsel for the National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) stated that while the insurance industry is focused on processing claims as quickly as possible, bad weather both locally and nationally has created an increased demand for adjusters, which could slow the claims process.
