Due to the last week’s hailstorm, the five largest auto-insurance companies in Missouri have received more than 38,000 claims of storm damage to cars in the St. Louis area alone.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the majority of claims came from North County. State Farm, which writes 23 percent of the auto policies held by Missourians, has taken 18,000 claims for damage to personal vehicles in North County, and 2,000 more from other parts of the state. The value of all claims in Missouri, for vehicles and homes, is at $95 million and rising. Cars were a significant part of the total losses.
The companies also reported receiving 26,000 claims of damage to dwellings, most listed as light to moderate.
Temporary locations for adjusters to inspect damaged cars and write checks have been established. In North County, American Family is operating three drive-in inspection sites. The number of reported claims is expected to increase.
