London commuters face significant disruption to their journeys after a power failure knocked out parts of the capital’s underground network.
Trains are delayed or not running on all or some sections of the Bakerloo, Jubilee, Piccadilly and Northern lines. The Elizabeth Line, a key link to Heathrow Airport, is facing severe delays. Some services were resuming by early evening.
The power is back but services will take time to return to normal, a Transport for London spokesman said, adding that the operator is working with National Grid Plc on the issue.
“The fault was resolved within seconds and did not interrupt supply from our network, but a consequent voltage dip may have briefly affected power supplies on the low voltage distribution network in the area,” a National Grid spokesperson said.
The disruption comes just weeks after Heathrow was shut down for much of March 21 when a fire knocked out the main substation supplying the airport. A Heathrow spokesman said the hub was unaffected by Monday’s power failure.
