A bulletin from XL Group notes: “As Mexico’s multinational companies continue to take a greater stake in the global market, protecting their assets across borders has become increasingly critical.”
In order to beef up the company’s presence in the country XL announced the appointment of Rubén Chanona as Senior Marine Underwriter in Mexico to lead its marine insurance business there.
He is based in Mexico City, reporting to Lee Meyrick, Chief Underwriting Officer Global Marine & Offshore Energy and to Alvaro Salamanca, Country Manager of XL Group’s insurance operation in Mexico.
Meyrick commented: “XL Group has considerable experience in providing all forms of marine insurance to cover a wide portfolio of risks for multinationals. Rubén is an experienced insurance professional who adds proven technical skills and in-depth knowledge of the local market to the team. I count on him to profitably build our business in Mexico with new and existing products that continue to meet our clients and brokers’ needs.”
Chanona brings 10 years of insurance industry experience to his new role. Before joining XL Group, most recently he held the role of Cargo and Marine Liability Underwriting Manager at ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ Mexico. Apart from a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Mr. Chanona also holds an M.Sc. in Hydraulics from UNAM.
