London-based specialty insurer Markel International Limited has appointed Mike Richardson as European retail claims manager.

Previously claims manager for Markel International’s UK retail division, a position he held for 10 years, his promotion will now see him responsible for all the claims functions of the company’s European retail offices. Prior to Markel, Richardson held claims positions at Hiscox Ltd and Sun Alliance Group plc.

The claims managers in the Madrid, Stockholm and Rotterdam offices will be reporting to Richardson, who will also be responsible for management of claims from Markel International’s German office. He will continue to head up the UK retail claims team.
