The XL Group announced that it has appointed Valérie Devaux-Piquer to the position of Casualty Underwriting Manager, Europe, Reinsurance, effective Sept. 1, 2013.
She will take the place of Dieter Kohl, who retires this summer, and will be based in Paris, France, reporting to Marcus Gonzales, General Manager UK Branch and Head of International Casualty Reinsurance.
David Watson, President and CEO of XL Re Europe Plc noted Devaux-Piquer’s “very broad experience of working across European markets and beyond,” adding that it “stands her in good stead to drive forward our Casualty business. Her deep understanding of these diverse markets will add additional expertise and knowledge to the team.”
Devaux-Piquer joins XL Group from Transatlantic Reinsurance Company where she held the position of Liability Technical Manager with responsibility for Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Turkey. Prior to Transatlantic, she worked for ACE European Group as European Group Casualty Manager responsible for CEE, Russia, and Middle East/North Africa. Between 1995 and 2007 she held various Specialty Casualty Treaty roles at SCOR Group in Paris, France.
She began her career as a Casualty Account Manager with Gras Savoye in 1982, and holds a CEFAR in Risk Management. She has also served as the President of the Liability Commission at the French Reinsurers association – APREF – since 2011. She holds a degree in Law and Insurance from the Université Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris, France and has earned her Master’s in Applied Economics from Université Paris-Dauphine, Paris.
