A Chinese bullet train manufacturer has halted some production while it investigates repeated breakdowns on the new Beijing-Shanghai line.
China North Locomotive and Rolling Stock’s announcement is the latest setback for China’s ambitious high-speed rail plans following a July 23 collision that killed at least 40 people.
The manufacturer says Chinese regulators ordered production of some equipment suspended while it investigates equipment failures that caused repeated delays on the Beijing-Shanghai line that opened in July.
IJ Ed. Note: Some news reports also indicate that the manufacturer will recall some 54 bullet trains, currently in service, over safety concerns.
