American International Group Inc. (ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½) is donating $1 million to support relief efforts in the areas affected by the Oct. 8 earthquake in South Asia. In addition, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ is encouraging its employees to help the earthquake victims by donating to the ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ Disaster Relief Fund. Employee donations will be matched 100 percent by ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½.
Martin Sullivan, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ president and chief executive officer, said, “While we are grateful that none of ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½’s employees were harmed in this tragedy, the earthquake in South Asia has left hundreds of thousands homeless with no access to the most basic necessities. The funds donated will be given to organizations throughout India and Pakistan that will be able to most efficiently and effectively provide much needed relief. ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ and its employees have a tradition of generosity, giving to those affected by tragedies including Hurricane Katrina, the South Asian tsunami and the September 11 terrorist attacks.”
ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ has long-standing presence in the region. Through a joint venture in India, Tata ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ has offices throughout the country that provide general and life insurance. In Pakistan, ÌìÃÀÍøÕ¾´«Ã½´«Ã½ Companies, headquartered in Karachi, also provide general and life insurance.
