The London Insurance Community presented a check for $400,000 to the New York Firefighters’ 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund to help families of firefighters killed in the attack on the World Trade Center.
The money was raised during a special benefit held in London. Ron Carlier, President of R.K. Carvill (International Holdings) Ltd., a London-based reinsurance intermediary, presented the check to firefighter union official Ed Burke at the Engine 40 Ladder Company 35 firehouse located near Lincoln Center in New York City. 11 of the firemen killed in the terrorist attack came from the station.
“This check is a reflection of our deep concern for the families of lost firefighters,” stated Carlier. “It is also a token of our heartfelt support for the New York Firefighters’ 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, and in keeping with the historical and emotional ties forged over the years between New Yorkers and Londoners.”
Lloyd’s of London donated £25,000 ($35,000) to the The St. Helen’s Friends of New York Trust, a fund organized by R.K. Carvill to act as a clearinghouse for all moneys contributed at the fund-raising benefit.
