American Re has appointed three senior executives who will further accelerate the company’s move into writing business through reinsurance intermediaries.
Richard J. McConnell has joined the Brokered Group as its chief financial officer and senior vice president. Prior to joining American Re, McConnell headed the financial products division of Reliance Re and held various positions in the Reliance Insurance Group.
Joy Takahashi has joined the Brokered Group as its senior vice president of strategic development. In this capacity, she will be responsible for identifying and developing new products and strategies for the Group. Additionally, Takahashi will manage broker relationships, as well as the Group’s marketing activities and initiatives. Prior to joining American Re, Takahashi headed the ceded reinsurance unit of ACE USA, where she worked closely with major reinsurance intermediaries and established strong ties in that community.
Gregory Speed has been appointed the Broker Group’s senior vice president of claims. Speed has been with the Munich Re group since 1979, when he joined Munich Re’s US reinsurance subsidiary, MARC. MARC was merged into American Re in 1997 and since then Speed has been part of American Re’s Claim Division management team, overseeing workers’ compensation and property claims units.
