The Sydney office of St. Paul International Insurance Co. Ltd., part of the St. Paul Group, announced that it will offer Australian doctors a medical indemnity policy “with the broadest possible coverages for clinical practice.”
“The policy has a A$25 million ($13.65 million) limit for each and every claim and a A$50 million ($27.27 million) limit in the aggregate,” said Peter Lepparde, the General Manager of St. Paul’s Sydney operation.
Commenting on the new policy Lepparde stated that “Much of the St. Paul’s experience has been in the United States, where patients are far more likely to sue and settlements tend to be much higher that in Australia, so the St. Paul is confident in its ability to provide Australian doctors with excellent coverage, often at less cost to them.”
St. Paul, the world’s largest provider of medical indemnity insurance, now offers coverage in 12 countries.
