New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu announced that Insurance Commissioner Christopher Nicolopoulos will not be seeking reappointment upon the conclusion of his term.
Nicolopoulos began serving a five-year term in February 2020.
Sununu said a search for a new Insurance commissioner will begin immediately.
Prior to joining the insurance department, Nicolopoulos served as the president and CEO of the New Hampshire Association of Insurance Agents for five years. He was also an associate at Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau & Pachios law firm, and government affairs director at the New Hampshire Association of Realtors.
Nicolopoulos succeeded John Elias, who resigned as insurance chief in December 2021 to take a job with Acadia Insurance, a regional carrier based in Westbrook.
Sununu thanked Nicolopoulous for his service to the state, noting that he “played a critical role in standing up New Hampshire’s first-of-its-kind voluntary Paid Family and Medical Leave Program, and has worked diligently to ensure the best premiums possible for policyholders.”
