A worker repairing the facade of a Manhattan building was killed and three others were injured on Thursday in an equipment collapse that left a metal platform dangling on its side and scaffolding buckling under, officials said.
Emergency personnel responded at about 4:30 p.m. to the 11-story building at 136 E. 36th St. The Fire Department said the injured people were taken to the hospital.
It was unclear what led to the collapse. The apartment building dates to the 1920s, city records show.
The city Department of Buildings was investigating, and said the permit holder for the facade repair work was Edras Group Corp. An email was sent to the company seeking comment.
Building manager Halstead Real Estate said it was saddened by the collapse, and that it was under investigation.
Police urged people to avoid the scene, between Lexington and Third avenues.
