Rhode Island officials have ruled the quarry blast that injured two town employees and damaged multiple buildings accidental.
The Westerly Sun reported the state Fire Marshal’s Office found the blast at the Westerly quarry did not violate state law or the state fire code.
The explosion in May sent pieces of granite flying into nearby buildings and into a town-owned pickup truck where workers had pulled over on the side of the road.
One worker was treated and released the same day, but the other worker was hospitalized with a head injury.
The Fire Marshal’s Office has reinstated the quarry’s blasting license after the owners promised to use an air horn to warn of upcoming explosions.
Blasting has resumed at the quarry.
