Workers’ compensation specialist The MEMIC Group, based in Portland, Maine, has announced the promotion of Karen Schwartz to the position of vice president of underwriting compliance.
She is responsible for leading the underwriting regulatory compliance and quality assurance teams across the group’s entire footprint.
Schwartz joined MEMIC in 2002 as an underwriter and was promoted to director of compliance in 2004. Prior to MEMIC, she was a program manager at Safeco Insurance, an account administrator at the insurance brokerage firm Parker, Smith & Feek and an analyst at the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI).
Schwartz graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Hofstra University. She has earned her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Workers’ Compensation Professional (WCP®), Associate Compliance Professional (ACP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) designations.
