Boston officials will be getting some firsthand advice on how to deal with issues surrounding the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Two public health officials from Denver will participate remotely in a meeting of the city’s board of health on Wednesday. They will discuss Denver’s experiences with legalization after Colorado became the first U.S. state to approve recreational pot in 2012.
Under a ballot question approved by Massachusetts voters last week, people 21 and over will be allowed to possess and grow small amounts of marijuana for recreational use starting Dec. 15. Retail sales of the drug aren’t expected to begin until 2018.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who opposed the ballot question, has said the law could allow dozens of pot shops to open in the city without significant zoning restrictions.
