Massachusetts state officials are issuing safety reminders to families as the summer season takes hold.
The Department of Children and Families, the Department of Public Health and the Office of the Child Advocate jointly issued the child safety tips in several areas where summertime accidents frequently occur.
With drowning a leading cause of death among young children, parents were reminded to always supervise their children in backyard pools, install and lock fences around pools when they’re not in use, and try to use public swimming areas where lifeguards are on duty.
To avoid falls from open windows in home, families are advised to keep furniture that children could climb on away from windows and install window guards if possible, since screens alone do not always prevent children from falling.
