Cities and towns across New York state are set to receive $185 million for anti-terrorism initiatives, bomb squads, 911 upgrades and other homeland security-related programs.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the grants from the state and federal governments last week.
More than $160 million will go to agencies in the New York City metropolitan area. Nine million dollars will go to counties around the state to pay for upgrades to local 911 emergency systems. Another $2 million will pay for equipment and training for hazardous materials crews.
Twelve bomb squads around the state will receive $2 million overall, and $500,000 will set aside to fund bomb-sniffing dog programs.
