The Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund (MAIF), a state-created entity that provides auto insurance to motorists who can’t get private-market coverage, plans to move its headquarters from Annapolis to Baltimore.

MAIF said this week that in recent years, through enhancements in technology and expansion of a remote working environment, MAIF has found itself occupying less than half of its current building located in Annapolis, prompting leadership to explore alternative options for housing its approximately 240-person workforce.

MAIF Executive Director, M. Kent Krabbe, said MAIF was committed to finding a state-of-the-art location that provides employees with “an energizing and collaborative work atmosphere, convenient access to amenities, and a healthy work/life/play environment while not adversely impacting daily commutes.” The new location in Baltimore’s Locust Point neighborhood meets all of these attributes, he said.

Work on the new 60,000 square foot office at 1215 East Fort Avenue in Baltimore is scheduled to be completed in mid-2015, with a tentative “move-in” date slated for fall 2015.
