Zachary W. Carter, who was tapped by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to become the city’s corporation counsel, will leave his board director seat at Marsh & McLennan Cos.
Carter, a partner at law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, has been a Marsh & McLennan Cos. board member since 2004. He chairs compliance and risk committee and is a member of audit committee and executive committee at the board.
Carter will resign from the board effective Jan. 17, 2014, and will not stand for re-election at the 2014 annual meeting, according to Marsh & McLennan Cos.’ regulatory filing.
In his role as New York City’s corporation counsel, Carter will oversee the law department, which is responsible for all of the legal affairs of the city. Before joining the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, he was the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1993 to 1999.
