New York-headquartered Marsh & McLennan Companies appointed Rian Miller as general counsel of Mercer, a human resource consulting subsidiary.

Miller was most recently with Towers Watson, where she served as managing counsel for risk and litigation since 2010. She joined predecessor firm Towers Perrin in 1997, working principally on employment matters.

In 2000, she was named Towers Perrin’s managing counsel for litigation and, in 2007, added the responsibility of serving as the chief ethics and compliance officer. Prior to joining Towers Perrin, she was an associate with Pepper, Hamilton.

Marsh & McLennan Companies said Miller brings broad expertise in the legal issues impacting the retirement, health and benefits, talent management, outsourcing and investments industries. She will report to Peter Beshar, executive vice president and general counsel of Marsh & McLennan Companies, and Julio Portalatin, CEO of Mercer.
