Anti-abortion activists are pushing a ballot question designed to repeal a key element of Massachusetts’ landmark health care law.
Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Anne Fox said the question would end the individual mandate that requires virtually everyone in the state have health insurance or face tax penalties.
Fox said the group ultimately wants to repeal the entire 2006 law which she said has led to a rationing of care.
The individual mandate is also a key element of the national health care law signed by President Obama.
The ballot question faces a series of hurdles. It must first pass constitutional muster from Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office
Supporters must then collect the signatures of nearly 69,000 registered Massachusetts voters to get the question on the November 2012 ballot.
