The federal agency that governs workplace safety has sent a letter to 63 New York City theaters saying future inspections of the venues will include reviews of their emergency action plans.

The letter from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says that the attempted car bombing in Times Square last summer highlighted the need for increased vigilance and ongoing emergency preparedness.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the letter was sent out on April 15.

Emergency action plans must outline various possible emergency situations. They must spell out which employees should stay behind to assist in evacuations. All venues with more than 10 employees must have such plans in writing.
