Maine insurance regulators say they recovered nearly $3.5 million for insurance consumers whose claims were underpaid in the state last year
More than $1.5 million was recovered for consumers by the Bureau’s Property and Casualty Division, and nearly $2 million was recovered for consumers by the Consumer Health Care Division. In addition to the recoveries for consumers, violations of Maine law resulted in $1.2 million in fines that were paid to the state’s general fund.
Superintendent Mila Kofman said the two divisions handled over 9,000 inquiries and received nearly 1,000 formal complaints in 2010.
