One worker is dead and another injured after two separate incidents at New York City construction sites last week.
In Brooklyn, a construction worker at a building going up died after he lost his balance and fell about 50 feet.
Police say 35-year-old Louis Zaruma, of Brooklyn, was putting up steel framework for the 6th floor of a residential building on Bedford Avenue Thursday afternoon when he fell.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Officials say it appears he was not wearing a safety harness.
Then on Friday, a worker fell 15 to 20 feet off a ladder and hit his head while working beneath the Throgs Neck Bridge.
The fire department initially had said that the worker fell onto the bridge’s midspan. The subcontractor was at the base of the Queens tower installing fencing when he fell.
