Attorney General Martha Coakley says Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. has sent out over $3 million in motorcycle insurance refunds to roughly 9,000 Massachusetts residents the company allegedly overcharged for collision and comprehensive coverage.
In a statement Wednesday, Coakley said distribution followed a settlement reached in January. Liberty Mutual must finish issuing the refunds by May 1.
The average refund is $334, but 740 residents will receive refunds between $1,000 and $9,200.
In order to be eligible for a refund, a consumer must have purchased either comprehensive or collision coverage for his or her motorcycle between Jan. 1, 2002 and March 30, 2009.
