A deputy sheriff has been accused of claiming an on-the-job injury when she actually was hurt by being thrown off her horse.
The Putnam County deputy, Barbara Dunn, was indicted Monday on charges including grand larceny, insurance fraud and perjury.
Her lawyer, William Aronwald, said the charges are unfounded.
District Attorney Adam Levy said Dunn is accused of stealing $56,000 by falsely claiming she fell down the stairs at the sheriff’s office. By collecting workman’s compensation, she received her full salary, tax-free, without using accrued sick time.
Levy said Dunn has been off the job since June 2008.
He said the perjury charges stem from court testimony in a case involving the seizure of dogs.
