Authorities say the pilot of a single-engine plane towing an advertising banner was OK after the aircraft crashed into Rehoboth Bay off Dewey Beach in Delaware
Investigators believe the Piper Cub lost engine power Saturday during a flight for Ocean Aerial Ads Inc. It plunged into the bay about 50 yards offshore, flipping onto its back in shallow water.
Police say the pilot, 45-year-old Thomas Henry of Ellicott City, Md., escaped serious injury.
Robert Bunting, the owner of Ocean Aerial, says airplanes sometimes break down and the company’s pilots are trained to take them down in the water, away from people.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the crash.
