Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety says 238 people have been charged with DUI since July at checkpoints across the state.

On June 27, the state began enforcing DUI laws in a campaign scheduled to end after New Year’s Eve. Every week, police across Delaware have multiple sobriety checkpoints.

Police have also arrested 33 underage drinkers, 85 wanted people and made more than 100 drug and felony arrests.

The state says nearly 40 percent of fatal traffic crashes this year were alcohol-related. Eighty-nine people have died in traffic crashes this year; 34 deaths were alcohol related.

Checkpoint Strikeforce is halfway finished and state officials have scheduled more checkpoints during upcoming race weekends.
