Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr. announced the filing of felony theft charges against John E. McKenney, Jr., 54, of Prince Frederick, Md. The filing of charges follows a joint investigation conducted by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration and the Office of the Attorney General.
In a one count criminal information filed in the Circuit Court for Calvert County, McKenney was charged with reportedly stealing approximately $6,000 in death benefit proceeds in July of 2003 from a client who was the beneficiary of her late husband’s life insurance policy.
If convicted, Mckenney could face up to 15 years in prison. No trial date has been set.
